Girls’ Generation, Jang Keun Suk, After School Earn Government Commendation


Celebrities including Girls’ Generation, Kim Gun Mo and Kim Byung Man will be honored with Public Arts Awards for their merits in improving public culture and art, announced the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on November 15.

The Ministry stated the government will grant the 2011 Korea Public Arts Awards to those who contributed to the enhancement of Korean culture and art and the spread of the Korean Wave.




By category, Kim Gun Mo, comedian Nam Chul, model Do Shin Woo, music producer Park Jin Young, Yang Hyun Seok, Lee Byung Hun and filmmaker Hong Sang Soo will be crowned with the presidential citation.

Radio DJ Kim Ki Deok, voice actor Kim Su Hee, singer Jeong Soo Ra, Girls’ Generation, film producer Shin Chul, musical performer Shim Seong Rak, actor Yu Dong Geun and drama producer Lee Jin Seok will receive the prime minister citation.

The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism citation will be presented to musical performer Kim Gi Pyo, comedian Kim Byung Man, voice actor Seo Hye Jeong, actress Jeon In Hwa, actor Song Il Guk, Jang Keun Suk, comedian Lee Kyung Sil, recording engineer Lee Tae Kyung, B2ST, CN Blue, After School and ZE:A.

Earlier, the government selected actor Shin Young Gyun, music producer Lee Soo Man, and singer Ha Chun Hwa as the recipients of the Eungwan Order of Culture Merit, Shin Jung Hyun, screenwriter Yu Ho, and voice actor Oh Seung Ryong as awardees of the Bogwan Order of Culture Merit on November 8 to recognize their contribution to Korean culture and art.

The award ceremony will be held on November 21 at Olympic Hall and will be followed by a celebratory performance by singers encompassing old and new generations.
