[UPDATE] JKS Still on TOP

Despite the surge in anti-Korean sentiment in Japan, Jang Keun Suk has proved his popularity is unwavering.

Jang will be heading off to Japan to attend a promotional event for his movie You’re My Pet, which is to take place in the Osaka Dome on February 11, alongside Kim Ha Neul, Jung Yu Mi and Ryu Tae Joon. The event will include talks with fans and onstage performances such as dancing and singing.

The 35,000 tickets to the event sold out as soon as they went on sale, and reportedly accommodations for hotels in the vicinity hiked up to 700,000 won.

Jang is distinguished from the older-generation hallyu stars who were popular among middle-aged Japanese women, and has a wider fan base that encompasses younger generations.

Jang previously confirmed his wild popularity in Japan, selling out 45,000 seats for Tokyo Dome concert during Japanese tour last year. He drew in a total of over 100,000 concert-goers for a total of ten concerts.

An associate behind the promotion event told enews, “We realized how much Jang Keun Suk is popular in Japan through this upcoming event. And the other cast members might have brought into the spotlight through You’re My Pet.”
